Title: Some Random Questions About My Hijab
I'm feeling a little funny today. But anyway, here are some real questions about my Hijab that I have encountered with, eversince I went permanent with it since 2008. Lol, and I thought it would be a good share.
1) Why do you wear the Hijab at such a young age? Are you a traditional girl?
Putting on the hijab; it is not because of tradition and it is never about fashion. But rather, it is a form of obligation. Religious beliefs and cultural beliefs, are two different things altogether you know. Oops, and oh yeah. Age is, but just a number!
2) When did you start going permanent with the Hijab?
When I was fourteen going on to fifteen. And I gotta admit that it was hard for me at first because there were instances when I felt like "oh-i-wish-i-could-take-off-my-hijab-and-set-my-hair-free". But I got used to it soon though!
3) I don't think it's practical for you to wear the Hijab in this hot weather. Don't you feel hot?
If I can't withstand the heat here, then what would it be like in hellfire? & if I were to go around telling people that I decided to not put on the Hijab today because the weather's too hot, then wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of putting on the Hijab; if it is comfort that I am looking for?
4) Now people on the streets will no longer mistake you for a Chinese girl anymore! Is that why you decided to put on the Hijab so that you could achieve that 'Malay girl' look?
Whaaaaaat? LOL! No dear, no. Although, it is true that people no longer mistake me for a Chinese and start speaking to me in dialects, I don't put on the Hijab just so that I could get that 'Malay girl' look. Haha, I choose to go Hijab because I want to be identified as a muslim lady. And, I do it sincerely for the sake of The Almighty.
5) If the Quran is true, why are there still many muslim women who aren't Hijab-ed?
Hmm. Let's put it this way. Drugs are illegal in Singapore aren't they? The law has it that anyone who is found guily of consuming drugs etc will be dealt with severely. But even so, we still do have people getting caught for drug abuse don't we? Singapore has its own set of laws but yet, we still do have people breaking those laws. All that I'm trying to say is that Allah has given us the option to make choices. Some people choose to wear it, some don't. Well maybe they will one day, insyaAllah.
6) Now you cannot wear all the normal people clothes wear!
In what way am I different from the normal people, just because I am Hijab-ed? But on the contrary, wearing the hijab has given me more freedom in the way I dress! For the past years in my life, I have always felt very subconcious to what I wear as I felt that people were judging me from it. Now, I feel like I don’t have to conform to society’s expectations of how I look, and I only have to please one - Allah - and that is much easier for me, Alhamdulillah.
"O Prophet! Tell your wives, your daughters, and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks(veils) over their bodies. That is more proper so that they may be distinguished and not molested. And Allah is Most Forgiving and Most Merciful." ( Al Quran 33:59)
