In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful
Assalamualaikum
Title: We shape their future.
My childhood was fun, tough and exciting. My childhood was one, where there wasn't much fighting. My childhood was filled with;family and friends; with love that tied up loose ends.
And soon, it is going to be my turn, to take up the responsibility of a teacher; helping the children of the future generation, to create a happy childhood.
I don't mind having to sit in a classroom; on a child-like sized chair and read storybooks to the children day after day, or be a clown for a bit and conduct music and movement lessons for them for the entire year etc. I'll enjoy the teaching process; I definitely will.
But at this moment, at this exact moment...I feel exhausted; both physically and mentally. Assignments are driving me like crazy and the current assignment that we've just been tasked to do, is not an easy one.& at the rate I'm going, I wonder if I have what it takes, to educate young children.
O Allah, please make all my affairs easy. It's getting tougher by the day, and the competition's getting fiercer each day. The pressure to do well is so overwhelming that I fear I might not be able to cope with the stress one day.
But you know what they say, with passion; the chances of success is almost there. Being in early childhood,it is all about making a difference in a child's life. Making a difference in a child's life; isn't that something that I have always wanted to do? Or perhaps, am I just being a little too idealistic?
My lecturer shared a true story with us during class today that she had experienced herself.
There's this little girl, who would always come to class, with bruises and cane marks on her arms, and over time, her form teacher had observed a drastic change of behavior in her.
The little girl, who was once so sweet and pleasant to be around with, had become rowdy and violent. Things got worse, when she was caught smacking her friend's face really hard, during playtime. Apparently, she was mad at that little classmate of hers for trying to snatch her toy away.
The teachers investigated the matter and through their investigations, they found out that the girl was physically abused by her dad at home. Her dad was a drug addict and would often beat the poor 5 years old girl up, whenever she misbehaves; which explains the cane marks and bruises found, on her arms. The case was later brought to MCYS.
What saddens me is that, who would have thought that such great amount of physical torture could have caused the little girl to suffer from serious emotional problems? She was only five; for goodness sake; this was definitely too much for her to take! ):
Through this story, I realised how fragile children are. I realised that as adults, we actually have that great amount of power that could leave an immediate impact, on a child's physical, intellectual, emotional and social well being.
And so, when I become a teacher, I'll make sure that my kids, will become a great somebody, someday! :)
